SOS Online Backup Prepares for World Backup Day

March 28, 2012

Did you know that all of the people on this earth will create 1.8 zettabytes of data this year? We are  constantly tweeting, taking photos, creating videos, writing documents, completing credit card transactions, and storing all of these records digitally. Businesses and individuals alike are wise to backup this data in a reliable and secure off-site data center, so that no harm can ever come to them.

World Backup Day is here to draw attention to the billions of files that are lost every year. Of course, they wouldn’t be lost, or ever at risk of it, if they were backed up properly. World Backup Day reminds us of a few very important facts about online backup:

1. It’s easy!

SOS Online Backup allows you to backup all your data with one account and schedule backups automatically. Backing up is so simple and effortless with SOS because it’s impossible to forget to do it!

You can quickly download a 175GB free trial from SOS Online Backup for Business by clicking here.

2. It’s affordable

Backing up five PCs at home is simple and affordable. SOS Online Backup for Home plans cost as little as 21 cents per day!

3. External hard drives and flash drives aren’t backup

If backups aren’t online, they aren’t secure. If backups aren’t automatic, then they aren’t guaranteed to get done as frequently as we need to do them. SOS goes the extra mile to encrypt all backed up data in three different tiers: locally, in transit, and at rest in the data center. Online backup shouldn’t just be simple, it should be secure, too!

Small Business Online : SMBs are Powering Growth in Online Backup – Back up Data in Cloud

February 16, 2012

The cloud was once something that felt speculative. Businesses were, not long ago, unsure whether to trust this impenetrable and ubiquitous piece of technology in the sky. Based on new information from Parallels Inc. and IDC, it appears that this concern has vanished, and businesses around the world are embracing the power and security of online backup.

This is great news for all of us cloud service providers out there – and great news for businesses.

In 2011, IDC reported that 16% of businesses had already started using online backup. That same survey concluded that 69% of businesses intend to use online backup in their business and are researching it. An article published today by Maggie Holland at ITPro.co.uk adds color to this spike in demand for online backup by SMBs.

“There are 148 million small businesses out there waiting to be served. The challenge we all have is that it’s such a diverse market,” said Parallel’s CEO Birger Steen during his keynote speech at the event.

IDC has also reported that the cloud services industry is going to double in size between 2012 and 2014. Small to medium-sized businesses are a huge force behind this move.

SMBs with less than 20 employees are three times more likely to use a cloud than on-premise server. In fact, traditional systems administrators working for a small business are no longer going to be people who hug servers in back rooms,” he said.

“In Q4 last year, we had, for the first time, more instances of servers out of the SMB server room than in the SMB server room in the US. The change is happening already. The server has effectively been moved out of the server room.”

Hardware, software, and skills needed to operate online backup and recovery solutions within an organization and outside of an organization are going to be in high demand in the next few years and beyond. SOS strives to offer complete solutions for managed service providers and businesses. These solutions make transitioning to online backup easy, light in resources, and completely affordable.

Kind Attention Cloud Backup Partners / Resellers / MSPs – Revenue from Cloud Services to Reach $55.5 Billion : IT World

January 18, 2012

Cloud backup is popular. There is no doubt about it. Many IT professionals out there are keenly aware of why the cloud backup is so popular.

  • Storage costs are becoming less and less expensive
  • Internet bandwidth and accessibility is improving
  • Understanding of cloud security is improving
  • Tape backup is similar in cost, or more expensive, and less advantageous
To illustrate this point, just look at the numbers put forth by IDC and ITworld.com.
Worldwide revenue from cloud services is expected to reach $55.5 billion in 2014, according to IDC. With a compound annual growth rate of 27.4%, the cloud is set for quite a trajectory.

Today, ITworld.com republished an article by CFOworld.com on the looming cloud backup decision for CFOs: is it more cost-effective to expand an internal data center? Or go to the cloud?

Depending on what your business needs are, the factors for making the decision vary widely. Though no one can discount the value of cloud backup and it’s capacity to decrease administrative costs, while being secure.

CFOs are at the apex when it comes to pulling interests of software-as-a-service, infrastructure-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service and other cloud strategies vs. maintaining servers, switches and storage under the organization’s roof….Manage too much in-house and you’ll strain your staff, infrastructure and budget.

As a managed service provider, or business owner, ask yourself about the benefits you can experience from cloud storage. Consider that it’s pretty handy to have your data center backed up as well.
